Silvia Gets Silver in All-State Meet - Qualfiies for New Englands This Weekend

(From the Woburn Chronicle)

HOLYOKE - For the Reading High girls' outdoor track and field team, this was the "Year of the Javelin".
While the Lady Rockets and every other Middlesex League team struggled in the postseason in most every event, Reading owned that particular field event.
Saturday at Holyoke's Roberts Sports Complex senior Mary Silvia was unable to become a state champion but she did better than everybody else in the local area by finishing second to Lunenberg's Laura Stern in the javelin at the MIAA All State Track & Field Championship.
Silvia didn't match her personal best and school record, but she came close a toss of 128-7, and inch ahead of Lauren Berg of Central Catholic, who won the Division 2 meet last week over Silvia by six inches.
Another Reading senior, first-year performer Heather Crocker, finished fourth in the even with a throw of 123-9.
Sophomore Oliva Dyson didn't medal, but she gave Reading three of the top ten finishers by coming in ninth with a throw of 113-2.
Silvia and Crocker move on to the New Englands this weekend at Fitchburg State College.
